I love dogs, since I was a child. I have always loved anmials, Animal planet is still my favourite TV channel today. Here's a picture of my fur babies, mitzi and casper. They are so lovely and I have learned so much from them ... it may sound strange to some of you that we humans can learn wonderful life lessons from our own pets. But it is true. To all dog lovers out there, u know what I mean...
I read lots of books on caring for dogs especially on natural health remedies and have practiced some of the methods on my babies now. It worked, they are healthy, happy and gorgeous looking dogs. I will share more about my experience in this blog.
I had a conversation with my friends about having dogs as pets yesterday. A friend wanted to have a dog, a golden retriever, he would like to have one as he loves dog and never had the experience of having a dog to call his own. During conversation, two diverse views of dog owners (myself and another friend, Lorainne). Lorainne talks alot of responsiblity, picking up after them, spending money on her dogs for health and food and it seems more like a chore to her then joy. I wonder where is that love, where is that happiness, where is that joy and comfort that our furry kids give us unconditionally that I know she must have experienced. It seems all so negative from her point of view, though i believe she still love her dog..... i shared about the plain simple joys of owning a dog and not to discourage my friend to go for it but think thru the responsiblities that come along but the joy of having them surely outway the "chores" of caring for them.... he looked soooo confused after the conversation. His idealistic world of pet ownership seems to have been affected by our 15mins conversation. Poor guy. But i guess it is good that he is aware of both the good and bad(if any) of dog ownership before he commit himself to one for LIFE.
I have never felt the way Lorainne felt..... well, maybe when my dogs are puppies for the first 3 months before I trained them and got used to the new routine of waking up earlier to tend to them before heading to work, walking them when i get home, training them basic commands and housebreaking them..... Thereafter, life with my furry babies is a bliss and it has never been a chore since.....I guess it all boils down to perspective. How we view the situation, which seems similar but appears different for different people. I never see picking up after them a chore, or spending on their health, food, supplement, an expense..... i find joy in just being with them, looking at their happy and yearning eyes makes my heart melt, their eager face when i am preparing their breakfast is pure joy when "someone" actually appreciates my awful cooking, walking them gives me the needed exercise and Just cuddling them, reading a book with both of them by my side is heaven.....
So, to all potential dog owners, no matter what you hear out there about caring for dogs, know that it's all in the state of our own perspectives.....you too can see the good sides of things rather then the flip side. IF picking up after them is not your cupa tea, or the patience to train them till they "get it" is not what you have time for, then no matter how cute that little puppy/dog looks at you. Just walk away for now.... when you are ready, a dog will be there for u to love and cherish for life.....
Here's a poem I'd like to share, so well written and speaks for alot of dog lovers out there.
Poem by William Curran
I want my boy to have a dog, or maybe two or three.
He’ll learn from them much easier than he would learn from me.
A dog will show him to love and bear no grudge or hate.
I’m not so good at that myself, but dogs will do it straight.
I want my boy to have a dog to be his pal and friend,
So he may learn that friendship is faithful to the end.
There never yet has been a dog who learned to double-cross
Nor catered to you when you won, then dropped you when you lost.
