It is funny how I am meticulous about what goes into my dog's diet but didn't care much about my own diet until recently when my yoga master shared with me the importance of diet and good health. Well, I knew about it all along as I read widely about natural health for dogs and mostly, diet play a very key role in their health. As I am the kind of person who eats what I like and what comes along, I am lucky to be free from illness at the present moment except for acne condition. Today, I am more aware what goes into my diet and actually feel guilty if I had an "oily" dinner or lunch or ate too much. Before, I was never bothered. Well, it's a start at least. I hope to continue taking care of my diet for LIFE!
All the while, I know the powerful benefits of flaxseed oil for my dogs and have put them under regular flaxseed oil supplement since I am aware. This powerful supplements aids in their immune system, skin & coat condition, overall health and immune system. Most of our diets (humans & dogs alike) do not have sufficient daily recommended level of EFA oils (omega 3, 6 & 9). Flaxseed oil supplement have these EFAs and the best part is that all this comes without the fishy smell. Since the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 is approximaetly 4:1, long term taking of flaxseed oil will lead to omega 6 deficiency. Do blend your flaxseed oils with oils higher in omega 6. High omega 6 oils include borage oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil and evening primrose oil.
Flaxseed oil benefits both our pets and our body tremendously. This oil benefits our cardiovasular, immune, circulatory, reproductive, nervous and joint systems. I feel it is an affordable supplement we all should take as most of us usually do not take sufficient omega oil from our regular diet.
Flaxseed oil when taken in dosages recommended for pets with cancer is known to show improvements and some even have their cancer cells shrink gradually. I'm sure it'd help us humans too!
Flaxseed oil is made more effective when 2 tablespoons of the oil are added to 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. The essential fats bind to the proteins in the cottage cheese making them more easily absorbed by your body. Here's a sample recipie to follow for daily consumption.
Here is Dr. Johanna Budwig's Blend:
Put in your blender:
1 cup organic cottage cheese
2-5 Tbsp. of flaxseed oil
1-3 Tbsp. of freshly ground up flaxseed (electric coffee grinder ($15) works fine)
enough water to make it soft
a little Cayenne pepper (red hot chilly pepper)
Care must be taken when choosing flaxseed oil. Buy flaxseed oil in an opaque plastic bottle. This will prevent light from turing it rancid. Check the expiration date as the oil spoils quickly. Keep it refrigerated for freshness. If you find that the oil develop a powerful odor, discard it.
Till we chat again, take your EFAs!!

Stop Puppy Mills!
At the bottom of today's journal is a poem written by a friend who rescued a dog from a puppy mill business. Read on and you will know why I never want to patronise any pet shops that sell puppies anymore. Buying any dogs from puppy mill related pet shops may not end up with just a cute puppy, the ordeal usually happens months later due to illhealth, skin issues, etc. Puppy mill puppies are bred with disregard of their health and genetic history. More terrifying is the ordeal and unkempt condition the parents of these puppies are kept just for breeding and only to be discarded like a piece of used rug when they can no longer breed.
If you ever want a puppy of a particular breed and adopting one is not your cup of tea, find a good, reputable breeder instead of heading straight off to a pet shop. It may seem more expensive in the begining to ship your dog back, but you will save more in terms of medical expenses in the long run. Besides, these puppies usually come with better temperaments as only the premium are used for breeding. Training them will be easier. Besides, you get free "consultation" on how to care for your puppies from these reputable breeders. They make ensure they sell the puppies to families who are committed to care for them. This way, we do not jump into making hasty decision when we see a cute puppy. With the advice from these reputable breeders, we know the responsibilities involved before we commit ourselves to purchase any pets from them.
However, if you do not mind any type of dogs, I highly recommend that you adopt one instead and save a life. Mutt dogs are usually "tougher" in nature as their gene pool are more diversed and the chances of getting genetic disorder are very rare unlike their purebred counterparts. There are so many lovely mutts & puppies out there for us to adopt (even purebred ones). Check out my links on dog adoption sites on the right hand corner on available dogs for adoption.
Here's another dog's story.
Find out more about Puppy Mill business here, how they operate and the dire state of the dogs here.
Lastly, here the story of this dog who was one of the victim. She was lucky to have my friend found her and rescued her before she was "thrown" away. It's a sad story anyway. This is just one story, imagine many others just like her spread all over the world bred, kept and tortured just for the greed of mankind.
Spread the word around all your friends & family. Remember, a little goes a long way. So don't think that what you are doing is going to mean anything. The rippling effect can be tremendous. Let's all help make this world a better one for all God's lovely creations. Take care, God bless and have a great weekend!
A VOICE FROM ABOVE
At a young age I was seperated
From a mother, I so missed
I was made to bear
Puppies for my owners care
My babies left me while they were small
While I suffered the pain of it all
Pain from the “quick” Cesar Section
Pain from the lack of basic attention
When I could produce, no more
Out on my own I had to go
Found by someone who cared
A happy two years we shared
Due to a very poor foundation
I suffered many a health condition
In heaven is where I live
To my friends more I have to give
I beg that my life not be in vain
To help others like me suffer less pain
As we do not have a voice
Our lifestyle is not by choice
Just imagine being in my shoes
Is this the kind of life you would choose
To suffer day in and day out
Is this what an animals life is all about
Please treat us better
An appeal to the Breeder
At home, we are your companion
Treat us with Compassion

Haze in Singapore
Haze is all time high last weekend on Saturday 7th Oct 2006. Miraculously, it improved tremendously overnight on Sunday 8th Oct 2006. We were all overjoyed. I wondered if there are lots of prayers going around to cause the wind direction to change. It is ok for the next couple of days until today, it is starting to look hazy again, though not as bad as Saturday's situation.
Just hope the haze improve and not get any worser. I can only imagine how bad it'd be if Saturday siutation continues for the next few days. I'm very sure workforce will weaken as people with poor immune system is going to fall ill. People who are astmatic have to be careful too when going outdoors until the air cleared up. Stay indoor as much as you can, switch on air conditioning especially if you have younger or older ones at home with poorer immune system. Above all, take good care of your own health, drink lots of water, exercise (indoor of course), and take lots of fruits and vegetables for now as we all need to beef ourselves out for polluted toxic air "war" with our body..... if you have air cleaning product such as ioniser, lampe berger, etc good for u! Use it often!! It'll help the family a great deal too!

Is it OK to Microwave our foods?
I chanced upon this internet article on the dangers of microwave oven.
CHECK OUT THIS ARTICLE!
I have never felt good about using microwave oven to cook or heat up my food mainly because as we were growing up, my dad refused to buy a microwave oven for the family as he felt that foods cooked in with microwave is unsafe for human health. As obedient children, we readily accept this and it has been my lifestyle till today. I have never (nor my family members) ever owned a microwave oven. After reading the article above, I am even more convinced about the dangers of cooking/heating up in microwave oven.
I was often laughed at for not knowing how to use the microwave oven and I am always afraid of standing in front of an operating oven. I figured, if this can cook meats in mins, it can surely cook me if I stand nearby the oven. Guess my instinct is right after all. Sometimes, we do not have to wait up for scientic proof (like the article above) for us to do/not do something. Learn to use our instincts in making any decisions for ourselves today.
Do give a second thought to microwaving your food. Most nutrients are lost and it can be dangerous if the food is not handled properly after microwaving. Get a conventional over instead of a microwave, it may take a little longer to have a warm meal but it is all worth it as these days, one can never take our good health for granted.....toxidity level is too high and beyond our control in our environment, we do not need to burden our body further.

Relax and sleep away in seconds....
Learnt something at yoga today that can help with any mental issues, be in insomnia, stress and even depression. This technique can also help us have a more restful sleep and we wake up refreshed and not needing that much of sleep. Our instructor shared that by doing this daily before we head to bed, we will be needing just 4-5 hrs of sleep a day...imagine how much more we can accomplished if we do that! That's like a savings of about a full month (i.e. 30 days) in a year just sleeping 2 hrs less a day! That's an additional month for each one of us!
Are we all not motivated to get started? It's very simple to do and the best part is that it is effortless!
Here's the steps:
1. Lie in this postion, legs open, arms relax and palms facing upwards.

2. Relax your body and breath in thru your nose.
3. Say the word "E" from your throat and breath out slowly as you say the word.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for at least 20 times.
Feel your body and mind after this. You will feel so relax you could go to bed almost immediately. I could hear the "E" sound in class getting softer and softer as we go along....I guess half of us are alseep that's why.
Enjoy and Good Health you all!
