Stop Puppy Mills!

At the bottom of today's journal is a poem written by a friend who rescued a dog from a puppy mill business. Read on and you will know why I never want to patronise any pet shops that sell puppies anymore. Buying any dogs from puppy mill related pet shops may not end up with just a cute puppy, the ordeal usually happens months later due to illhealth, skin issues, etc. Puppy mill puppies are bred with disregard of their health and genetic history. More terrifying is the ordeal and unkempt condition the parents of these puppies are kept just for breeding and only to be discarded like a piece of used rug when they can no longer breed.

If you ever want a puppy of a particular breed and adopting one is not your cup of tea, find a good, reputable breeder instead of heading straight off to a pet shop. It may seem more expensive in the begining to ship your dog back, but you will save more in terms of medical expenses in the long run. Besides, these puppies usually come with better temperaments as only the premium are used for breeding. Training them will be easier. Besides, you get free "consultation" on how to care for your puppies from these reputable breeders. They make ensure they sell the puppies to families who are committed to care for them. This way, we do not jump into making hasty decision when we see a cute puppy. With the advice from these reputable breeders, we know the responsibilities involved before we commit ourselves to purchase any pets from them.

However, if you do not mind any type of dogs, I highly recommend that you adopt one instead and save a life. Mutt dogs are usually "tougher" in nature as their gene pool are more diversed and the chances of getting genetic disorder are very rare unlike their purebred counterparts. There are so many lovely mutts & puppies out there for us to adopt (even purebred ones). Check out my links on dog adoption sites on the right hand corner on available dogs for adoption.

Here's another dog's story.

Find out more about Puppy Mill business here, how they operate and the dire state of the dogs here.

Lastly, here the story of this dog who was one of the victim. She was lucky to have my friend found her and rescued her before she was "thrown" away. It's a sad story anyway. This is just one story, imagine many others just like her spread all over the world bred, kept and tortured just for the greed of mankind.

Spread the word around all your friends & family. Remember, a little goes a long way. So don't think that what you are doing is going to mean anything. The rippling effect can be tremendous. Let's all help make this world a better one for all God's lovely creations. Take care, God bless and have a great weekend!

A VOICE FROM ABOVE

At a young age I was seperated
From a mother, I so missed
I was made to bear
Puppies for my owners care

My babies left me while they were small
While I suffered the pain of it all
Pain from the “quick” Cesar Section
Pain from the lack of basic attention

When I could produce, no more
Out on my own I had to go
Found by someone who cared
A happy two years we shared

Due to a very poor foundation
I suffered many a health condition
In heaven is where I live
To my friends more I have to give

I beg that my life not be in vain
To help others like me suffer less pain
As we do not have a voice
Our lifestyle is not by choice

Just imagine being in my shoes
Is this the kind of life you would choose
To suffer day in and day out
Is this what an animals life is all about

Please treat us better
An appeal to the Breeder
At home, we are your companion
Treat us with Compassion
