The Pet Food Recall Saga….More good then harm

More pet owners are cooking for their pets today then ever before. It is a wonderful news to me. I view the recent Pet Food Recall event as a “blessing” to our animal friends…. As some of you know, I am an advocate for natural health for dogs and never advocate commercialised pet food for your pets. Today, there has been so much more awareness for this with minimal effort on my part. I have spoke to so many dog owners in the past to change their pet diet but only few are willing to make that switch. Today, there is no longer a need for me to explain in greath length on what is good for their pets, I just have to teach them how to cook for their pets with the least amount of effort and costs!

Happy Paws

Dogs have masters, cats have staff .....

Cesar millan is not new to all of us who love dogs. As the Dog Whisperer, he help guide all dog owners to understand their pets's behaviour and needs.

Dogs are not complicated, the are the most simple creatures I know. All these furry pets need in life are love, affection, exercise and some discipline to live happily with their human companions. Happy dogs make happy owners and life will be a bliss.

Cesar's Way is a good read for all dog owners who wants to take responsility on how to train a dog including dealing with difficult issues such as agression. This book moves beyond obedienece school techniques and teaches owners how to undo "misbehaving pets" so as to have a better understanding of their animal friends.

Check out the book and improve your relationship with your dog forever!

Another lousy news about dog food company

You decide on your choice of foods for your dog....avoid supporting organisations like this from now on... lab dogs are suffering in silence all these while.....

Commercially dog food vs Home cook dog food

Like many, due to time constrain and busy lifestyle, I have fed my dogs premium commercially produced dog food for 4 years since their puppyhood before I switch them totally to home cooked foods about half year ago...

Though I hardly even cook for myself and family, the man reasons why I made the drastic change in their diet and put in the additional effort to cook for them are..
- They have variety of foods source, human grade
- Natural, imagine ourselves eating dried food daily. No enzymes is not good for anyone!
- I control what goes into them...
- No presertives or chemical treated foods
the list of home cooked benefits goes on....

Over the weekend, I heard of news that in the states, many major dog food brands are called off the market shelves. I was in awe, some of the brands are premium and supposedely healthy wholesome foods for dogs. Makes me feel at ease for making the switch in their diet recently and re-confirm my sendiments that home cooked is still best for my pooches.

Take responsiblity for your pet's health and wellbeing, consider cooking for them naturally instead....it just takes me less then an hour to cook a weeks' food supple for my 2 medium sized dogs....not much effort for long term health and wellbeing for my favourite friends....

Doga....yes, Yoga for dogs!

Chance upon this accidently. I love dogs, most of you know....and dogs and yoga are my hot passion today....and to blend them together seems like fun!

Dogs are natural dogi, they do not need to be taught how to stretch nor breath properly. they live life in the moment....these we all should learn from them..... no wonder dog owners are known to be happier and healthier, they learn to live like their dogs!

Doing Yoga at home can be a little challenging when your furry friend comes too close to you when you are practising. Though my dogs pretty much leave me alone when I do yoga, but there are times when they would come too close and I either have to stop to avoid hurting accidently. Maybe doga would be my answer. I should read up more about it and learn how to do yoga with my dogs!

Btw, Happy Lunar New Year to all Chinese friends out there!
Have a fantastic, prosperous and enlightening year ahead!

My plea...

Found out that yet another stray dog today got herself into trouble with the authorities by being too close to us humans. Someone complained that she loiters around housing estates and authorities are looking out for her and likely catching her soon. Most strays caught are likely put down, we can't blame the authorities as there are way too many out there and not enough homes for them. Besides, staying in flats (apartments), we are not allowed to keep big dogs. Makes it even more challenging for anyone who are trying to rehome/rescue tehm.

How is it that the stays are gettting so bold? Strays never get close to humans for as long as I can recall until recently that I hear of couple of strays that come so close to us. My guess is that these bold strays are probably fed by well meaning humans who took pity on them and fed them regularly. These dogs naturally got used to us, love us and hang around humans alot. Bad part is that they usually end up getting caught in the end by the very "species" whom they trusted most.

Really sad to hear news like that. This is the second one I know for the past 2 months and her situation is not known yet. We are looking earnestly now for a fosterer who can keep her until we find her a home.

If you have anyone in mind who can foster her, do contact me at my email pets.for.life@gmail.com

Lastly, STOP FEEDING STRAY DOGS...they cant get too close to humans. They can easily get caught and even abused by humans who don't fancy them or get in their way. Love them, Leave them alone. The toughest will survie, it has been like this centuries ago, so leave them be.

Sure hurts to see them hungry and cold but by feeding them, we are sending them nearer to their own "graves", though it can also be seen as a form of release for them eventually.....in any case, do what you feel is right.

I feel that what we can advocate for is to help them get spayed/neutered and return them back to where they belong. This I feel is the best way to help keep the stray population in check.

Food before Yoga ?

I have been told to go Yoga classes with empty stomach and have been doing it for a long time until recently, I got greedy 2 days ago and had a piece of Chinese New Year cookie before I head off for my morning class. Gosh, I felt terrible, like my stomach weigh a ton when i'm doing my morning practice. Alright, not a ton but really uncomfortable. Wonder if any of you have had experience like that. I know of a friend who actually eat free before class, I am actually amused when she told me as I would feel terrible if I do that...
Here's what i found out about food before Yoga, good as a guide, but best to listen to your own body and do what your body says feels good....Cheers!

In general, the stomach should be empty. Food in the stomach can reduce range of motion & energy level, which can affect your strength, stamina as well as your ability to concentrate. In general, before your yoga practice, wait 2-3 hours after eating meat; 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours after carbs/starches; 1/2-1 hour after fruits & veggies. Now you know the issues, and knowing your own metabolism and digestive system, you can make your best decision.

Help Flood Victims at NOAH’S ARK in Johor

Hi all, we are all aware of the recent flooding at Johor state. Like humans, the dogs are not spared from it. Received this email on plea to get donations in kind / items to assist the dogs. Do whatever you want within your means.... Below is the attached email by the President of Noah's Ark.

Dear Friends of Noah’s Ark

UPDATE IN AID OF THE WELFARE OF THE ANIMALS AT NOAH’S ARK IN JOHOR THAT WERE RESUCED DURING THE RECENT FLOOD

We refer to our email appeal on 28 December 2006 regarding your assistance in helping our animal friends that were recently rescued from the flood. Many, we are happy to say are now safe and are being treated at Noah’s Ark – our sanctuary.

We have been much touched and heartened by the many kind calls we have received from animals lovers both in Singapore and Malaysia all asking to help or have asked us to help these flood victims. We at, Noah’s Ark are trying our best to help save as many animals as we can that are in distress. Priority will be given to the injured, sick and the young puppies/kittens. This Saturday, 20 January, some of us - both volunteers from Singapore and Malaysia will be driving up to the sanctuary to rescue more of these animals in Johor. We would like to thank again all our friends and supporters for their kind donation and support towards these rescued animals. The funds that you have kindly donated will go towards food and medical expenses for the well being of the rescued animals from the flood at Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Sanctuary. Todate we have taken in 56 dogs, 14 puppies and 27 cats from the affected area. There sadly is still much to do for these animals.

Just as we thought we had earned a welcomed respite from the rain, the continued rain from 10 to 12 January ’07 proved to be yet another disaster for both animals and residents in Johor. On Saturday, 13 Jan - as we made our way up to Noah’s Ark with your generously donated supplies, as we saw that the residents at Ulu Pulai were just as badly affected. The heavy downpour had wrought much damage to their household and shops. Water levels reached were almost 5 ft high.

Heard about Olive Leaf Extract?

A friend of mine got shingles and that cause me to do a bit of research into what supplements might help her....basically, her immune system is weaken so anything that boosts up her immune system will aid her in faster recovery, of course, together with her dr's advice.
Chance upon a herbal remedy for aniti viral effect called olive leaf extract and seems to help high blood too! Bought it and tried it for couple of days now.....seems to feel a little more lethargic in the first couple of days i tried, could be detoxing effect. Today, i feel somewhat still the same as before. I guess it's too early to tell any signs of real benefits from this supplement.

I think the real test for this supplement would be an improvement of my hubby's blood pressure as I am generally healthy and hardly sick. It is supposed to help improve blood pressure and cholesterol level too. Both conditions he had for sometime. Will keep you all updated on his condition from taking this supplement regularly, i figured it should take couple of months....tune in till then! Btw, he is still on Dr's prescription......whatever natural remedies we are taking should complement Dr's advice, so never never take any supplements to replace dr's medications. Be responsible for your own health.....

cheers to health! :o)
